DGP Dilbag Singh Emphasizes Vigilance Amid Continuous Border Threats
The Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, reiterated the need for vigilant law enforcement to counter persistent threats originating from across the border. This comes in the wake of an attack on a police official in Srinagar’s Eidgah area on Sunday.
Addressing the incident, DGP Singh stated, “One of our officers was playing cricket with other officials in a field yesterday and was attacked. He is receiving treatment and is in the process of recovery.” DGP Singh made these remarks during the launch of 160 state-of-the-art vehicles for 43 police stations as part of Operation Capacity Building (Op CAP), which took place at Zewan.
Expressing the ongoing need for vigilance, he emphasized that threats persist. He also indicated his continued commitment to the police force, stating, “A policeman is always a policeman. I have been with the force for 30 years, and I will continue to remain with the force,” even as his retirement date looms on October 31.
Singh highlighted that the deployment of 160 modern vehicles to the 43 police stations under Op CAP is aimed at achieving “Zero terror in the area falling under each police station.”
Regarding recent infiltration attempts, the DGP acknowledged the strength of the border defenses but also noted that the neighboring country continues to push militants across. He cited recent successes, including the killing of five terrorists in the Machil Sector and an ongoing operation resulting in the elimination of one terrorist in Kupwara district.
Responding to questions about ceasefire violations in the Arnia sector of Jammu, he stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of the firing incident. He expressed hope that the ceasefire would persist, bringing relief to border residents. Police and security agencies will remain vigilant, closely monitoring developments, and taking necessary measures to address any additional challenges that may arise.
