DGCA Completes Inspections on Indian B737 Max Fleet: One Aircraft Shows Missing Washer
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) revealed that inspections on 39 out of 40 Indian B737 Max aircraft have been finalized, with nil issues except for one aircraft where a missing washer was discovered in the Aft Rudder Quadrant.
This scrutiny was conducted following a recommendation by Boeing after an international operator found a bolt without a nut during routine maintenance on December 28. As a precautionary measure, Boeing urged all airlines to examine their B737 Max fleet for potential loose hardware.
DGCA reported, “Inspections on 39 aircraft have concluded without any findings, except for one aircraft where a missing washer was identified.” They also highlighted that corrective measures, in line with Boeing’s directives, were promptly undertaken before releasing the aircraft back to service.
While awaiting a response from Boeing regarding this discovery, DGCA emphasized that the inspection of the remaining aircraft would be completed before it’s cleared for service.
India currently operates a fleet of 40 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, distributed among Akasa (22), SpiceJet (9), and Air India Express (9). Boeing, in a statement on December 30, mentioned that the issue identified on the particular airplane had been resolved. However, as a precaution, they advised operators to inspect their 737 MAX airplanes and notify them of any findings.
Boeing reassured its continuous communication with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) of the US regarding the progress on this matter, aiming to ensure the safety and compliance of its fleet.
