Delhi Metro Implements Restrictions for New Year’s Eve Celebrations; Traffic Advisory Issued by Police
Ahead of the New Year’s Eve revelries, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has enforced specific regulations for commuters using the Rajiv Chowk station. Exit from the Rajiv Chowk Metro station will be prohibited after 9 pm on December 31, though entry will be permitted until the last train, as confirmed by DMRC. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, while the regular metro services on the rest of the network will remain unaffected.
Simultaneously, the Delhi Police issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for the capital city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (CP) for Traffic, highlighted that necessary arrangements and personnel deployment are slated at various anticipated gathering spots like Connaught Place, India Gate, Aerocity, Qutub Minar, and other crowded areas.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav emphasized heightened vigilance, particularly in locations prone to larger crowds post-8 pm, such as Connaught Place. He stressed the importance of public cooperation to refrain from drunk driving, emphasizing the stringent measures the law enforcement agencies will implement in response to such behavior.
The police have historically taken a firm stance against drunk driving, and Yadav emphasized that even stricter actions will be taken this year. New Year’s Eve marks the culmination of the year, while January 1 signifies the commencement of a new year according to the Gregorian calendar.
