Cyberattack Shuts Down Majority of Iran’s Gas Stations
Nearly 70% of Iran’s gas stations were reported to have gone out of service on Monday, possibly due to a cyberattack, as per Iranian state TV.
The disruption was attributed to a “software problem,” and people were urged not to rush to the operational stations. This incident is the latest in a series of cyberattacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure, including fuel distribution, railways, and industries.
The country’s reliance on outdated hardware and software, as well as its disconnection of much of its government infrastructure from the internet, has made it vulnerable to such attacks.
A hacktivist group called “Gonjeshke Darande” claimed responsibility for the cyberattack, citing it as a response to the aggression of the Islamic Republic and its proxies in the region.
The incident comes at a time when Iran-backed proxies have increased their attacks against Israel’s allies.
The disruption in Iran’s gas stations is a significant event with potential far-reaching consequences for the country and the region.
