Counselling for NEET Candidates to Begin Soon in Jammu and Kashmir
Key Highlights:
- Counselling for NEET candidates will start within two weeks.
- BOPEE will issue a notification detailing the process and dates.
- Higher-merit candidates prefer top colleges despite increased MBBS seats.
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) is set to begin counselling for NEET candidates within the next two weeks. The board will oversee the allocation of college seats based on candidates’ preferences.
This follows the Supreme Court’s approval for NEET qualifiers, which has allowed BOPEE to move forward with the college assignment process.
BOPEE plans to release a notification soon, outlining the specific dates for counselling. NEET qualifiers will be required to submit their college preferences before any allocations are made.
A meeting among BOPEE officials is expected on Friday to finalize these dates and issue the necessary notification.
Minu Mahajan, Chairperson of JK BOPEE, mentioned that the start of counselling was delayed due to higher-level issues but emphasized that the situation is now resolved.
She assured that the counselling process will begin soon, allowing candidates ample time to review information and complete all required formalities.
Despite an increase in MBBS seats in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, candidates with higher merit continue to show a preference for established institutions such as GMC Srinagar, GMC Jammu, and SKIMS Srinagar.
Those with lower merit are typically assigned to newer colleges.
