Congress Leaders Urge Support in Cyclone Michaung’s Aftermath
As Cyclone Michaung continues to affect Tamil Nadu and other regions, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have expressed their concern and urged support for the affected areas. Gandhi, expressing distress over the destruction and loss of lives caused by the cyclone, called on Congress leaders and workers in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha to aid government relief and rescue efforts.
Gandhi extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the cyclone and emphasized the need for support as the cyclone progresses. He stressed the importance of Union government assistance to state governments during this crisis and urged Congress workers to help fellow citizens.
Devastating Impact and Relief Efforts
The cyclone has caused significant damage, including the loss of eight lives and widespread waterlogging leading to the closure of multiple roads and subways. The Tamil Nadu police reported various fatalities due to electrocution, wall collapses, and other storm-related incidents.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected affected areas and relief camps in Chennai, ensuring that 162 relief centers, operating with 20 kitchens, are providing necessary aid to 2477 residents. The state has mobilized a large-scale effort to mitigate the cyclone’s impact, with 5000 workers moved to Chennai for relief works.
IMD’s Forecast and Ongoing Measures
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the cyclone’s position and movement, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and response. The Chennai corporation is focusing on rescue operations, providing food to relocated individuals, and clearing roads.
The collective response from political leaders, state governments, and emergency services highlights the concerted effort to address the challenges posed by Cyclone Michaung and provide necessary relief and support to the affected populations.
