On Friday, the ruling Congress party made the decision to expel Antagarh MLA Anoop Nag due to his defiance of party directives. He had chosen to run as an Independent candidate in the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections scheduled for November 7 and 17. This disciplinary action was initiated under the orders of Deepak Baij, the chief of the state unit, as stated in the expulsion notice issued by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee.
Anoop Nag’s expulsion comes in response to his decision to contest the Antagarh (ST) seat independently, in direct opposition to the official Congress candidate, Roopsingh Potai. The expulsion will last for a duration of six years, according to Congress leaders.

State Deputy Chief Minister and prominent Congress figure, TS Singh Deo, emphasized that the party’s priority is to engage with and persuade individuals who deviate from the party’s line. However, if such individuals remain uncooperative and persist in their opposition to the party’s decisions, disciplinary measures will be enforced.
Antagarh is set to conduct its polls in the initial phase on November 7.
