Congress Announces Candidate for Final Madhya Pradesh Constituency as Polls Near
As the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections scheduled for November 17 approach, the Congress party has announced its candidate for the last remaining constituency in the state, Amla in Betul district. Manoj Malve will represent the Congress in this final constituency, completing the party’s list of candidates for all 230 assembly seats.
Initially, there had been much anticipation surrounding the nomination of Nisha Bangre, the Betul deputy collector, as the Congress candidate for the Amla constituency. However, Ms. Bangre’s resignation, which is still awaiting approval from the state government, posed a challenge. The resignation was filed on June 22, but Ms. Bangre’s petition had been pending due to ongoing disciplinary proceedings against her.
In response to this situation, Nisha Bangre approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking a directive for the government to swiftly accept her resignation. Earlier last week, the High Court in Jabalpur directed the state government to make a decision on her resignation and disciplinary proceedings by October 23.
The decision to field a candidate in all 230 seats underscores the Congress’s position not to form an alliance with its two partners in the INDIA bloc, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The SP and AAP have both released separate lists of candidates for the upcoming elections in the BJP-ruled state.
