Cloudburst Triggers Devastating Floods in Arunachal Pradesh

    Village in Shi-Yomia District Affected

    A cloudburst in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomia district resulted in devastating floods in Lhallung village near Mechukha, causing extensive damage. The incident damaged two power stations, disrupting electricity supply to Mechuka township and nearby areas. The floodwaters also caused destruction to agricultural fields, crops, houses, water supply, and livestock. Fortunately, no loss of human life has been reported.

    Immediate Action and Assistance

    Assembly Speaker Passang Dorjee Sona, representing the Mechuka constituency, expressed serious concern over the situation. He instructed the district administration to take immediate action and provide assistance to the affected families. Passang Sona also directed the Power and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to begin the restoration process promptly.

    Seeking Government Assistance

    Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Passang Sona reached out to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, seeking their assistance in addressing the crisis. The hydel stations in Lhallung village play a crucial role in supplying electricity to Mechukha township and its neighboring areas, making their restoration a top priority.
