Chingus-Rajouri Receive PMGSY Road Connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir
In a significant development aimed at bolstering road connectivity in the remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir, a Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road is under construction in the hilly expanse of Rajouri district. This project will connect Chingus to Rani Badetar, providing a vital lifeline to the local communities.
Rapid Progress on the Chingus-Rani Badetar Road
The construction of this vital road is nearing completion, with officials estimating that it will be ready for public use in just 2-3 days. The Chingus-Rani Badetar road spans a distance of 6.5 kilometers, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 1.30 crore and an allotted cost of Rs 97 lakh.
Relief and Opportunities for the Local Residents
Local residents have expressed their gratitude to the government for this transformative infrastructure development. Previously, the poor condition of the road presented numerous challenges for the villagers. Medical emergencies were particularly daunting, as reaching a hospital was often arduous. Sanveer Singh, a resident of the area, emphasized the positive impact of the road, stating that it has not only improved healthcare access but also made it easier for students to attend schools and colleges. Furthermore, this development has sparked economic growth, with many individuals setting up shops and homes along the newly constructed road.
A Closer Look at PMGSY’s Mission
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) is a transformative initiative that has been instrumental in enhancing rural connectivity since its launch in 2000. Its primary goal is to provide all-weather road connectivity to previously unconnected habitations based on the 2001 Census data.

PMGSY’s Expansions and Success Stories
Over the years, the PMGSY program has expanded to address different facets of road connectivity. In 2013, PMGSY-II was launched to upgrade selected routes and major rural links, aiming to enhance 50,000 kilometers of roads in various states and union territories. Subsequently, in 2016, the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA) was introduced to construct and upgrade strategically important roads in regions affected by left-wing extremism. The year 2019 witnessed the launch of PMGSY-III, focusing on consolidating 1,25,000 kilometers of roads, connecting habitations to Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs), higher secondary schools, and hospitals.
Impactful Progress
Since its inception, PMGSY has made significant strides in enhancing road infrastructure. As of July this year, a total of 1,84,056 roads, covering a staggering 7,93,568 kilometers, and 10,082 bridges were sanctioned under various PMGSY interventions and verticals. Impressively, 1,70,857 roads spanning 7,12,638 kilometers and 7,264 bridges have already been completed, illustrating the tangible impact of this vital initiative.
