    The Central government has invested ₹29,903 crore in the development and maintenance of national highways in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, constructing 1,003 km of roads, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed Parliament.

    Gadkari emphasized that several major infrastructure projects, including four-lane highways and tunnels, are underway to modernize road connectivity in J&K and Ladakh. He highlighted that improved highways will reduce travel time, provide year-round accessibility, and enhance security in the region.

    “The central government is committed to accelerating highway construction in J&K and Ladakh, focusing on safer, more efficient travel while supporting economic growth and regional development,” Gadkari stated.

    Additionally, Ladakh has received ₹1,608 crore for road development, resulting in the construction of 143 km of highways.
