Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, earned the moniker “Iron Man of India” for his pivotal role in uniting the nation by convincing princely states to join India. In honor of his legacy, his birthday on October 31 was declared National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in 2014. The colossal Statue of Unity, situated on the banks of the Narmada river in Vadodara, Gujarat, was inaugurated in 2018 in memory of Vallabhbhai Patel. This statue stands as a symbol of India’s unity.

Special Events on National Unity Day
To mark the occasion, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) organized the Run for Unity in Delhi, starting from Rajghat and concluding at Lal Quila. Around 600 citizens, including Divyangjans, participated in this event. Additionally, various organizations held pledge-taking ceremonies and organized competitions, such as Rangoli, essay writing, and debates, to commemorate the enduring legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
