New Delhi, Oct 14: In a major crackdown on passport fraud, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated search operations at 50 locations in West Bengal and Gangtok. This development comes as the agency has filed cases against 24 individuals, a mix of government officials and private individuals, suspected of orchestrating a large-scale passport scam.

Detentions in Gangtok: Official and Middleman Under Scrutiny

Among those detained in this ongoing operation are an official stationed in Gangtok and a middleman, both of whom are believed to have played integral roles in the alleged passport fraud ring.

Passport Issuance on Forged Documents: A Racket Unveiled

The FIR (First Information Report) has officially named 24 individuals, with 16 of them being government officials who are suspected of issuing passports to ineligible applicants based on falsified documents. These passports were allegedly provided to non-residents, with bribery being the driving force behind this illicit scheme.

Multi-City Searches Unfold

The extensive search operations have cast a wide net, spanning across multiple cities, including Kolkata, Siliguri, Gangtok, and various other locations. The CBI is leaving no stone unturned as it seeks to dismantle the passport scam network and bring those involved to justice.
