- The accused were caught red-handed in a planned sting operation by the CBI.

In a significant crackdown, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended three individuals, including a Patwari from Halqa Soal, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi, alongside a property dealer and a middleman, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The arrest follows a complaint by a resident whose father was in the process of purchasing property from the accused property dealer.
The complaint alleged that the property dealer, a resident of Village Jib in Tehsil and District Udhampur, demanded a bribe on behalf of the Patwari in exchange for issuing a Fard, or revenue extract, related to the property transaction.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the CBI set up a sting operation to catch the accused in the act.
The CBI’s operation involved a meticulously planned trap, leading to the sequential arrest of all three suspects. The property dealer was the first to be caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
Following this, the middleman was apprehended during further trap proceedings as he accepted the bribe from the property dealer. Lastly, the Patwari was arrested after accepting the bribe from the middleman.
Following the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused. The trio will be presented before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), in Jammu, where they will face legal proceedings.
The CBI’s investigation is ongoing as it continues to gather evidence and build a case against the accused. The arrests underscore the CBI’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability within government offices.
