Caretaker PM Emphasizes Enhanced Trade Measures with Uzbekistan
Islamabad: In a pivotal meeting between Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Dr Jamshid Khodjaev Abdukhakomovich, discussions revolved around the importance of streamlined visa procedures, improved banking channels, and reciprocal warehousing facilities to bolster trade ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
Expressing contentment with the current pace of bilateral engagements, PM Kakar highlighted the advancements in trade, defense, and connectivity between the two nations. The meeting also acknowledged the success of the First Trilateral Meeting of Commerce Ministers from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan, where a trilateral working group was established to address customs, logistics, trade promotion, tariffs, TIR procedures, and more.
Trilateral Mechanism Aims to Elevate Trade Relations
The Prime Minister expressed optimism regarding the outcomes of the trilateral meeting and emphasized the potential of the trilateral mechanism to significantly enhance trade relations between Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. PM Kakar stressed the importance of sustaining momentum in people-to-people exchanges, fostering deeper cultural and economic ties.The interim premier conveyed hope that the business communities of both countries could swiftly achieve the bilateral trade target of US$1 billion. Deputy Prime Minister Khodjaev expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and briefed PM Kakar on productive meetings with Pakistan’s business community, particularly in the banking and logistics sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Khodjaev highlighted the importance of active engagement for the timely completion of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project. The Uzbekistan delegation, including high-ranking officials such as Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov Rustamovich, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Badriddin Abidov, and others, affirmed their commitment to fostering stronger ties.
