A tragic accident occurred in Odisha’s Balasore district when a bus carrying 20 pilgrims from Nepal and 41 other passengers collided with a stationary truck on NH-16. The incident unfolded near Talanagar, under the jurisdiction of the Soro Police Station, on the national highway. The bus, en route from Kolkata to Puri, rammed into the truck from behind.

Injured Pilgrims and Driver

Balasore Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sasanka Sekhar Beura confirmed that the collision took place around 5 am. As a result, 21 individuals sustained injuries, including the 20 Nepali pilgrims who were aboard the bus. They were promptly transported to Soro Hospital for medical attention, and after receiving treatment, the Nepalese pilgrims were discharged. However, the condition of the bus driver deteriorated, and he was subsequently transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore.

Bus Details and Assistance Provided

The tourist bus involved in the accident is registered in Uttar Pradesh, and the driver hails from that state, according to the officer. Local authorities ensured that the injured passengers received essential care, including food and water. Arrangements were also made to facilitate their onward journey to their intended destination.

One of the pilgrims, Kamlesh Kumar Mishra, shared that they were on their way to Puri for a darshan (worship) of Lord Jagannath when the unfortunate accident occurred. The incident underscores the importance of road safety and the need for caution while traveling on national highways.
