BSF Thwarts Pakistani Drone Smuggling Attempt in Punjab
In a successful operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier intercepted a Pakistani drone, foiling a smuggling attempt near Village Chak Allah Baksh, District Amritsar. The early morning operation on November 26 led to the seizure of a significant amount of narcotics and weapons.
Seizure of Arms and Narcotics
BSF troops engaged the Pakistani drone with firing, leading to the recovery of a pistol, two magazines, 20 live rounds, and 5.240 kg of heroin. This operation represents another thwarted effort by Pakistani smugglers to infiltrate Indian territory with narcotics and weapons.
BSF’s Vigilance on the Western Border
In 2022 alone, BSF made substantial progress in countering cross-border smuggling with the seizure of 69 Pakistani drones on the Western Border, including Punjab and Rajasthan frontiers. Most of these drones, used for smuggling small amounts of contraband, primarily heroin, were seized in Punjab.
Increasing Drone Activity and BSF Response
The increase in drone activity in 2022 is significant compared to previous years, with recoveries jumping manifold. These drones often carry payloads from 500 grams to 1 kg and are primarily operated at night to evade detection. BSF’s proactive approach, in coordination with state police, has been crucial in addressing these security challenges.
This incident underscores the ongoing vigilance and effectiveness of the BSF in safeguarding India’s borders against illicit smuggling activities and maintaining national security.
