Breakthrough in Fatima Furro Murder Case: DNA Matches Point to Prime Suspect
Sindh Caretaker Minister for Law and Human Rights, Muhammed Omer Soomro, has revealed a significant development in the murder case of nine-year-old housemaid Fatima Furro. The DNA samples obtained from Pir Asad Shah, the prime suspect, have been confirmed to match with the semen found on the victim’s clothes, according to Soomro’s statement during a press conference.
DNA Match and Initial Challenges
Initially, the DNA samples of Pir Asad Shah did not match due to alleged interference by the suspect. Soomro explained that the health department officials had destroyed the specimen under the suspect’s influence. However, a subsequent analysis at a facility in Punjab yielded a positive match, providing a breakthrough in the investigation.
The deceased girl, employed as a domestic worker in Asad Shah’s haveli, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on August 14. A post-mortem report later confirmed sexual abuse, leading to the lodging of a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Complexity Unveiled: Torture and Additional Allegations
The case took a complex turn as the girl’s father initially claimed a stomach-related ailment. Videos showing torture marks on a girl went viral, prompting police intervention. Sukkur Counterterrorism Department Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Qudoos Kalwar reported the seriousness of the matter, leading to the exhumation of Fatima’s body. Further arrests, including a key suspect and allegations of torture by another teenage housemaid, added layers to the investigation.
