The HMAS Warramunga, an Anzac-class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy, has made a notable entrance into Visakhapatnam to participate in the multinational naval exercise, MILAN 2024. The Eastern Naval Command expressed a warm welcome to the Australian warship, emphasizing the significance of this participation as a testament to the close maritime partnership shared between Australia and India.

Earlier today, the Eastern Naval Command extended a similar welcome to Corvette 20 of the Vietnam People’s Navy and USS Halsey (DDG-97) of the United States Navy, both arriving in Visakhapatnam for the MILAN 2024 maritime exercise. This collective presence underscores the commitment to regional security and the strengthening of defense partnerships.

Strengthening Bonds and Promoting Peace: MILAN 2024’s Vital Role

The MILAN 2024 exercise serves as a pivotal platform for participating navies to engage in joint exercises, fostering cooperation and enhancing interoperability. As Visakhapatnam hosts these naval vessels, it reinforces its role as a key maritime hub, promoting collaboration among nations dedicated to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The exercise is anticipated to deepen bonds of friendship and contribute to peace and stability across the oceans.

Moreover, the 12th edition of the MILAN exercise, scheduled from February 19 to 27 in Visakhapatnam, will witness the participation of over 50 countries. The overarching theme, “Forging Naval Alliances for a Secure Maritime Future,” reflects the exercise’s primary goal of providing a platform for participating navies to share ideas, ensuring security on the high seas, and safeguarding maritime commerce for the mutual growth and prosperity of all nations involved.

In a statement, the Indian Navy emphasized MILAN as an excellent platform for enhancing security, building bridges of friendship, and strengthening relationships. The exercise aims to boost interoperability, facilitate the exchange of best practices, and instill confidence among participating navies to undertake joint missions in the future, addressing common challenges collectively.
