ATC Approves Interim Bail for PTI Leader Zartaj Gul in Vandalism Case
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Pakistan has granted interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zartaj Gul in a case related to vandalism and riots in Gujranwala Cantt. The court approved her bail plea until April 18, directing her to cooperate with investigators.
Legal Proceedings and Charges:
Zartaj Gul appeared before the ATC, seeking bail, which was granted based on her assurance of future appearance. Earlier, copies of the challan were provided to Gul and other accused, including Sheikh Rasheed, in the May 9 riots case. The riots ensued after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, with military installations targeted by alleged PTI workers.
Previous Legal Action:
In January this year, Zartaj Gul was granted protective bail by the Peshawar High Court amid allegations of corruption. Last August, she faced accusations of corruption, with authorities attempting to arrest her. Despite multiple summons by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), she remained elusive.
Corruption Allegations:
Zartaj Gul is accused of accepting bribes to award contracts for development projects at reduced costs to her associates. The ACE raided her residence last year in connection with the corruption allegations, but she was not present.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings:
The court has scheduled the next hearing to indict the accused, ordering them to ensure their presence. Gul’s interim bail allows her temporary relief until further legal proceedings unfold.
As legal battles continue, Zartaj Gul’s case underscores the challenges faced by political figures in Pakistan amid allegations of corruption and unrest.
