Arvind Kejriwal Defies ED Summons Again
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has opted to skip questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the fifth time in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Despite being summoned to the ED’s Delhi headquarters today, Kejriwal has remained firm in his refusal to appear, citing the alleged illegality of the summons and claiming a targeted attempt to arrest him.
AAP Alleges Political Vendetta
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Kejriwal, denounces the ED’s actions as politically motivated and unlawful. Accusing Prime Minister Modi of aiming to arrest Kejriwal and destabilize the Delhi government, the party declares its intent to resist such maneuvers. This follows a pattern of defiance, with Kejriwal having previously ignored three summons on November 2, December 21, and January 3.
Speculation Surrounds Arrest Concerns
Since the initial ED summons, speculations have circulated about the possibility of Kejriwal’s arrest after questioning. With other AAP leaders already in custody, the party anticipates potential arrests and strategizes to ensure Kejriwal’s continuation as Chief Minister, even if working from jail.
The ED’s investigation revolves around allegations of liquor companies influencing the excise policy for financial gain, with kickbacks flowing to public servants. The Enforcement Directorate has accused money laundering related to these kickbacks. The BJP contends that funds from this alleged scam were used by AAP for its campaign in Gujarat, where it gained significant votes and national party status.
