Army Chief to Review Security in Jammu Following Doda Encounter

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will visit Jammu today to assess the security situation. His visit follows the tragic loss of four Indian Army soldiers, including Captain Brijesh Thapa, during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on July 16.
This marks General Dwivedi’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir, having previously reviewed the security along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch-Rajouri sector on July 3.
General Dwivedi, who took command of the Indian Army on June 30, will receive briefings from formation commanders about current security measures. A comprehensive security review meeting involving other security agencies is also anticipated.
In response to the infiltration of highly trained Pakistani terrorists, the Indian Army is readjusting its deployments in the Jammu region based on intelligence inputs and security requirements.
Approximately 500 Para Special Forces commandos have been deployed to track down the 50-55 terrorists believed to have entered the region.
Intelligence agencies have intensified their efforts to dismantle the terrorist support infrastructure, including networks of overground workers.
The Army has reinforced its presence with one brigade strength of around 3,500-4,000 personnel to counter the threat. Ongoing strategies focus on searching and neutralizing the terrorists, who are armed with advanced weaponry and communication equipment.
The existing counter-terrorist infrastructure includes two Rashtriya Rifles forces, the Romeo and Delta forces, alongside other regular infantry divisions. These units are actively engaged in operations to ensure the security of the region.
The situation remains tense, with the Indian Army and JK Police conducting joint operations based on specific intelligence inputs.
The loss of four soldiers, including Captain Thapa, underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region.
