Amit Shah Orders NIA and NSG Teams to Investigate Kerala Blasts
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has taken swift action in response to the tragic blasts in Kochi’s Kalamassery, Kerala. He has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) to send teams to Kerala to commence an investigation. The incident, which resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries, occurred during a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Kalamassery area.
Home Minister’s Phone Call with Kerala Chief Minister
Amit Shah also made a phone call to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to assess the situation. Chief Minister Vijayan expressed his condolences, acknowledging the incident as “very, very unfortunate.” He further noted that the government was collecting details about the incident and that top officials in Ernakulam were already on-site. The Chief Minister assured that the situation was being treated with the utmost seriousness, with the Director General of Police (DGP) en route to the blast site.
Health Minister’s Directives for Medical Assistance
Health Minister Veena George has issued instructions to all hospitals to alert health workers who are on leave to return immediately, in order to provide assistance to the injured. She has also directed the Director of the Health Department and the Director of the Medical Education Department to ensure that the injured individuals receive the best possible treatment.
Chronology of the Blasts
The police reported that multiple explosions occurred at a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Kalamassery area of Kochi district. The initial explosion took place at around 9 am, followed by several more blasts over the course of the next hour. The incident transpired on the last day of a three-day meeting that began on October 27. At the time of the blasts, more than 2,000 people were attending the prayer meeting, which further underscores the tragic scale of the event.
Authorities are working diligently to uncover the cause of the blasts and provide support to the affected individuals and their families.
