Allahabad High Court Takes Strong Stand Against Pradhan Interference
In a significant move, the Allahabad High Court has taken a resolute stance against the interference of Pradhans (village heads) in the work of the village council. The court has issued a circular to the State Election Commission, mandating that candidates must submit an affidavit during nomination, affirming that there will be no interference from the Pradhan or any other entity in the work of the woman village head.
Affirmation of Autonomy
This directive underscores the importance of maintaining the autonomy and authority of women village heads. It seeks to prevent undue interference in their responsibilities, ensuring that they can carry out their duties without external influences.
Additionally, the court has directed the Principal Secretary of Panchayat Raj to disseminate this order to all village heads. This notification will serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving the integrity and independence of women village heads.
Penalties for Interference
The court has also imposed penalties on those found to be interfering in the work of the village council. A compensation of Rs 10,000 has been levied, with both the Pradhan and the Pradhan’s husband each contributing Rs 5,000. The demand draft for this amount is to be submitted to the Director General’s office within two weeks.
Specific Case in Bijnor
Furthermore, the court has issued specific directions in a case involving President Sukhdev Singh and the Madpuri Gaon Sabha of Nagina Tehsil. The court has ruled that President Sukhdev Singh should not interfere in the work of Madpuri Gaon Sabha, and all tasks should be carried out by the woman President, Karamjit Kaur.
Protecting Women’s Empowerment
The Allahabad High Court’s strong stance against Pradhan interference emphasizes the importance of protecting women’s empowerment in local governance. It underscores that women elected as village heads should have the authority to make decisions without external influences, safeguarding the political objective of women’s inclusion and participation in mainstream politics.
Recognition of Women Leaders
The court also recognized the efforts of women leaders in the state who are actively contributing to their communities and working towards the betterment of society. This move by the court reaffirms the commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality in local governance.
