Akasa Air to Launch First Commercial Flights From Navi Mumbai International Airport on December 25, 2025
Mumbai’s long-awaited second airport — the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) — is set to begin commercial operations soon, following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Akasa Air has become one of the first carriers to announce its flight schedule from the new airport, marking a major step in Mumbai’s dual-airport future.
The airline said its maiden flight from Delhi to NMIA will land on December 25, 2025, officially opening its operations at the new hub. “Thrilled to announce the launch of our operations from the all-new @navimumairport (NMIA)! Our maiden flight from Delhi to Navi Mumbai will land at NMI on 25th December 2025, marking a historic milestone,” Akasa said in a post on X. The carrier will offer services from NMIA to Ahmedabad, Delhi, Goa, and Kochi.
According to Akasa Air, the inaugural Delhi–Navi Mumbai flight will kick off a phased rollout. Scheduled services from NMIA to Goa will also begin on December 25, followed by flights to Delhi and Kochi the next day. Operations to Ahmedabad will start on December 31.
Air India Express and IndiGo are also preparing to begin flights from NMIA by the end of the year, adding to the airport’s first wave of commercial routes.
Praveen Iyer, Akasa Air’s Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, called the move a landmark moment. NMIA, he said, will help create a dual-airport system for Mumbai that boosts connectivity and gives passengers greater flexibility and reliability.
IndiGo, meanwhile, will launch its own services from December 25, connecting NMIA to 10 cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Kochi, and Mangaluru.
The opening of NMIA is expected to significantly expand the Mumbai region’s aviation capacity and improve travel options for millions of passengers each year.
