    AIIMS Awantipora Construction Reaches 44% Completion, Confirms Central Government

    On Tuesday, the Central government informed the Rajya Sabha that significant progress has been made in the construction of medical facilities in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, 92 per cent of the civil construction for AIIMS Jammu and 42 per cent for AIIMS Awantipora has been successfully completed.

    In response to a query, Dr. Pawar revealed that the Jammu and Kashmir government has granted approval for the establishment of five medicities in the Union Territory. Providing specific details, he mentioned that AIIMS Jammu has reached 92 per cent completion in civil construction, with 1450 faculty and non-faculty positions sanctioned, of which 549 have been filled.

    Additionally, AIIMS Jammu has received one MRI machine. On the other hand, AIIMS Awantipora has achieved 44 per cent completion in civil construction.Dr. Pawar shared further developments, stating that seven new medical colleges have been approved in Doda, Kathua, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, Handwara, and Udhampur.

    As per the scheme guidelines, the responsibility for planning, execution, commissioning of projects, and the operation and recruitment of staff for the approved Government Medical Colleges lies with Jammu and Kashmir.Highlighting healthcare expansions, the minister mentioned that Trauma care facilities have been approved for four hospitals, including MMAM District Hospital Anantnag, Trauma Hospital Ramban in Doda, District Hospital Udhampur, and District Hospital Kupwara.

    Dr. Pawar concluded by sharing the approval from Jammu and Kashmir for the establishment of five Medicities. Two each will be set up in Jammu and Pulwama, while one will be established in Srinagar. This signifies a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region.
