ADAFSA showcases water sustainability initiatives
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) underscores the critical need for conserving water resources amidst growing concerns over scarcity and depletion. Emphasizing the importance of optimal water usage and avoidance of wasteful practices, ADAFSA aligns its initiatives with the ‘Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative’, aimed at tackling global water scarcity challenges.
World Water Day Commemoration
ADAFSA’s commitment to water conservation coincides with World Water Day on March 22nd, dedicated to promoting sustainable water management. The authority collaborates with strategic partners to implement various projects and initiatives focused on enhancing water efficiency in agriculture and managing resources comprehensively.
Treated Water Distribution Project
ADAFSA’s Treated Water Distribution Project is a cornerstone initiative aimed at extending treated water to over 1,600 farms in key areas of Abu Dhabi. This project, undertaken in collaboration with strategic partners, underscores the importance of utilizing recycled water to irrigate farms, thereby reducing pressure on groundwater resources and ensuring agricultural sustainability.
In alignment with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, ADAFSA’s initiatives aim to secure water supplies for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural uses. By promoting the use of recycled water and adhering to international standards, ADAFSA contributes to sustainable water management and integrated development.
Leveraging technology to enhance water conservation efforts through initiatives such as the Electronic Irrigation Calculator Project, ADAFSA ensures optimal water usage by accurately determining irrigation needs based on weather conditions and crop schedules.
Moreover, the authority conducts extensive training and extension programmes to raise awareness among farmers about water conservation practices and best agricultural methods. Through regulations and certifications, ADAFSA promotes water conservation and strengthens the role of the agricultural sector in sustainable development.
Encouraging the adoption of modern irrigation systems tailored to crop needs and promoting hydroponic farming methods, ADAFSA remains committed to sustainable agricultural practices and water conservation in Abu Dhabi.
