Actor Imran Khan to Challenge FRRO’s Leave India Order in Bombay High Court
MUMBAI, October 15, 2026, [VoM News]: Actor Imran Khan, an American citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, is set to approach the Bombay High Court challenging an order directing him to leave India by October 28.
As per the reports, the lawyer Zulfiqar Memon will file a petition on Khan’s behalf against the order issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
The action has been taken following the Khan’s participation in a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Khan, his partner Lekha Washington and cousin Zayne Marie Khan were detained during the demonstration and subsequently released.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya later filed a complaint questioning Khan’s participation in the protest as a US citizen.
Police subsequently forwarded the matter to the FRRO.
The FRRO reportedly maintained that Khan’s OCI status did not permit him to participate in such protests and issued the order under provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Samajwadi Party Maharashtra chief Abu Azmi criticised the action, describing the direction to leave India as excessive.
Khan had said during the protest that he attended as someone living in Mumbai and wanted to question restrictions on movement and public expression.
The Bombay High Court is now expected to consider Khan’s challenge to the FRRO order.
