Mumbai Police Direct Actor Imran Khan to Leave India by October 28 Over Anti-CEC Protest
Mumbai, October 15, 2026: Mumbai Police has directed actor Imran Khan to leave the country by Oct 28 in connection with anti-CEC protest.
In a notice to the Bollywood actor, Mumbai Police has warned Imran Khan nephew of Aamir Khan to leave India by October 28 after he took part in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The police noted the action was taken pursuant to provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 and the police officials stated that Khan is an American citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
On October 10, the actor joined a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai, where youth protested against the irregularities in the electoral registration process and demanded the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
The demonstration was in solidarity with the protests being organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in New Delhi. Khan was one of the protesters who were picked up by police on route to Mumbai in the demonstration.
The development came after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya had asked about whether the actor has joined the political protest despite being a foreigner.
Somaiya asked the authorities to review if Khan breached any provisions of the immigration law and conditions attached to his OCI.
The purpose of the OCI card is to provide some rights to its holders regarding their residency and travel in India, but it is not a citizenship card. Other administrative actions are reportedly underway.
There was no immediate public response from Khan regarding the notice.
