ACB arrested RDD Official in Central Kashmir for Rs 2,000 Bribe
On Thursday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended an official from the Rural Development Department in the Budgam district of central Kashmir for soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to Rs 2,000.
According to a statement from an ACB spokesperson, the arrest followed a written complaint filed against Tanveer Ahmad Dar, an Assistant Engineer stationed at the BDO Office in Surasyar, Chadoora. The complaint alleged that Dar had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to facilitate the release of a pending payment owed to the complainant. The complainant asserted that two bills, each amounting to Rs 90,000, were supposed to be cleared by the Assistant Engineer. Despite this, Dar insisted on the bribe and eventually settled on Rs 2,000 for the release of the payment. Subsequently, the complainant arranged the money and sought legal intervention from the ACB.
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB initiated action by registering Case FIR No. 25/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the ACB police station in Srinagar. An investigation was promptly launched.
The statement further elaborated that a trap team was assembled during the investigative process. The ACB successfully apprehended the Assistant Engineer red-handed while he was in the act of demanding and accepting the Rs 2,000 bribe. The bribe money was seized on the spot, and the accused was arrested and placed in legal custody. Ongoing investigations into the case are underway.
