AAP to Challenge Chandigarh Mayoral Polls, Alleges “Deshdroh” by BJP

AAP leader Raghav Chadha expressed strong objections to the Chandigarh mayoral poll process, labeling it as “unconstitutional and illegal.” The BJP’s sweeping victory in all three posts, including mayor, prompted Chadha to accuse the BJP of orchestrating a fraudulent election, leading to the AAP-Congress alliance’s defeat. He asserted that the alliance had a certain victory with 20 votes in the 35-member Chandigarh Municipal Corporation House.

Allegations of Fraud and “Deshdroh” Against BJP

Raghav Chadha alleged that the BJP, sensing an imminent defeat, engaged in conspiracies, attempting to buy AAP councillors and later resorting to fraud during the mayoral polls. Chadha accused the presiding officer, Anil Masih, associated with BJP’s minority wing, of favoring the BJP and declared that the AAP would approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court to challenge the electoral fraud. The AAP leader demanded an FIR against the presiding officer.

BJP Accused of Election Rigging and Forgery

The AAP-Congress alliance condemned what they termed a “jungle raj,” blaming the BJP for undermining the democratic process. Chadha expressed broader concerns about the state of India’s democracy and questioned the BJP’s commitment to fair elections. The AAP plans to seek the court’s intervention, urging a fresh election and the appointment of a retired high court judge as the presiding officer.
