AAP MLA Rakhi Birla Detained in Protest After Kejriwal’s Arrest

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Rakhi Birla was detained for protesting outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case. The Supreme Court is set to hear Kejriwal’s petition against his arrest on Friday.

Kejriwal’s arrest has sparked protests by AAP workers, with AAP leader Gopal Rai announcing nationwide protests to be held on Friday against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the allegations of corruption linked to the city’s liquor policy. The Congress is expected to join the protests.

AAP’s Response and Legal Action

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai condemned the arrest, stating, “The BJP sent agencies and got Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal arrested…This is the murder of democracy.” AAP has filed an application in the Supreme Court against Kejriwal’s arrest and hopes for protection of democracy through legal means.

BJP’s Reaction and Demands

Meanwhile, the BJP criticized AAP’s response, accusing the party of insulting the Constitution by suggesting that Kejriwal will run the government from jail. BJP demanded Kejriwal’s resignation in light of the allegations.

Context: Arrests in Excise Policy Case

Kejriwal’s arrest comes after the Delhi High Court refused interim protection to him in connection with the excise policy case. Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already in judicial custody in the same case.
