AAP alleges money trail traced to BJP account, challenges PM and ED
Senior AAP leader Atishi has challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging a money trail leading to the BJP’s account in the case involving Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. At a press conference, she asserted that no evidence of financial misconduct has been found related to any AAP member in the excise policy scandal. Atishi questioned the grounds for Kejriwal’s arrest, stating it relied solely on the testimony of an individual who later recanted his statement. She alleged that this individual donated Rs 4.5 crore in bonds to the BJP. Despite the ED’s raid at the Delhi CM’s residence, no illicit funds were discovered.
Kejriwal’s Detention and Allegations
Arvind Kejriwal was remanded to ED custody for seven days in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case, which is linked to money laundering. The case revolves around purported irregularities in framing and executing the Delhi excise policy in 2022. The ED alleges Kejriwal’s direct involvement in soliciting kickbacks and formulating the Excise policy. The agency also claims to have traced Hawala trails amounting to Rs 45 crore, allegedly used in the Goa Election.
Protests and Previous Detentions
The AAP plans to protest Kejriwal’s arrest by ‘gheraoing’ the prime minister’s residence on March 26. Notably, two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already in judicial custody in connection with the same case. Kejriwal’s arrest follows the ED’s detention of K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, in connection with money laundering charges related to the excise policy. Kavitha remains in ED custody till March 23.
