Iran-US War LIVE Updates March 18 – 2026: Iran ambits on Revenge For Iranian official Ali Larijani killing
Tensions in the Middle East have sharply intensified after Iran launched multiple-warhead missiles targeting Israel, describing the strikes as retaliation for the killing of senior Iranian official Ali Larijani.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed the attack, stating that advanced missiles were used to penetrate Israeli air defence systems. The strike reportedly targeted areas near Tel Aviv, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving United States, Israel, and Iran.
Tehran also confirmed that Ali Larijani, who served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed along with his son and several associates in an earlier Israeli operation. The development has further fueled hostilities between the two nations.
Meanwhile, the conflict is expanding beyond direct Iran-Israel exchanges. The US Embassy in Baghdad came under attack, with Iraqi officials reporting that projectiles struck within the compound. In addition, drones and rockets were launched at American-linked targets across the region, including Iraq.
In the Gulf region, Saudi Arabia intercepted missiles aimed near a military base hosting US forces, while air defence systems were activated in Kuwait and Bahrain amid incoming threats. A separate incident saw a missile land near an Australian military facility in the United Arab Emirates, though no casualties were reported.
Israel has intensified its military response, launching airstrikes not only inside Iran but also in Lebanon, particularly targeting areas in Beirut. Initial reports indicate casualties following strikes on residential neighbourhoods, raising concerns over civilian impact.
Diplomatic efforts appear strained, with Iran rejecting ceasefire claims and insisting it has not sought negotiations with Washington. At the same time, divisions are emerging among Western allies. US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with allies such as the United Kingdom over their reluctance to be drawn into a broader war.
The situation remains highly volatile, with multiple flashpoints across the Middle East—including Iraq, Lebanon, and the Gulf—indicating a widening conflict that could have significant global implications.
