AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi Hails Party’s Maharashtra Civic Poll Gains, Urges Rivals to Introspect
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday thanked the people of Maharashtra for electing 125 of his party’s candidates as corporators across various municipal corporations, calling the results a clear verdict from voters and urging rival parties to reflect on their losses.
Addressing a press conference, Owaisi said the outcome underscored growing public support for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and dismissed criticism from opponents who have often branded the party as the BJP’s “B team.”
“Now those parties who abuse us should look within themselves,” he said. “This is the people’s decision. There’s a saying — victory has many fathers, defeat has none. Those who lost should ask why.”
He added that there were no irregularities in the voters’ list, responding to questions raised by some opposition leaders following the results.
Buoyed by the Maharashtra performance, Owaisi said AIMIM is already preparing to contest upcoming municipal elections in Telangana. The party, he noted, has begun seeking names of interested candidates as part of its early groundwork.
Commenting on speculation around the political dynamics involving the Thackeray cousins, Owaisi said the election results spoke for themselves. He pointed out that Uddhav Thackeray’s candidate emerged victorious in the area where Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s residence is located.
“Our party has won. I am happy. I don’t know about others,” he remarked.
Owaisi also expressed confidence that the newly elected AIMIM corporators would remain loyal to the party. He said the leadership is taking all necessary precautions to ensure unity within its ranks as it looks to consolidate and expand its presence in local bodies.
The results mark a significant moment for AIMIM in Maharashtra’s civic politics, reinforcing its growing footprint beyond its traditional strongholds.
