Anti-Terror Team Dispatched as Serial Blasts Hit Prayer Meeting in Kerala
A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a convention center in Kalamassery, Kerala, where at least one person lost their life, and 36 others sustained injuries in a series of blasts. The tragedy occurred during a Jehovah’s Witnesses convention attended by nearly 2,000 people, approximately 10 kilometers from Kochi. The ordeal began with three blasts that occurred within minutes after the prayer meeting commenced.
Witnesses Describe Horrifying Scene
Eyewitnesses at the convention center recounted the terrifying moments. The first blast struck in the middle of a prayer, leaving attendees shocked and frightened. “Subsequently, we heard two more blasts,” described an elderly lady who was present at the center.
Government Response and Investigation
Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, expressed his condolences and labeled the blasts as ‘unfortunate.’ The government is taking the situation seriously, with all senior police officials en route to the blast site. Kerala’s Health Minister, Veena George, has ordered all healthcare workers to report for duty in response to the incident.
The cause of the blasts remains unknown, prompting the National Investigation Agency to take up the investigation. The agency’s forensic team is already on the scene, gathering evidence to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Rescue Efforts and Evacuation
Disturbing visuals from inside the convention center depicted a chaotic scene, with fire rescue and police personnel working tirelessly to evacuate people from the site. The area has been cordoned off for safety. Inside the hall, multiple fires and damaged chairs were visible, while the sounds of people, including children, in fear and distress could be heard in the background.
This tragic incident has left a community in mourning and raised many questions about the nature of the blasts.
