On Thursday, law enforcement authorities apprehended an individual who had been posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and engaging in fraudulent activities within the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, the arrest was made after a formal complaint was filed by Ghulam Hassan Malik, a resident of Aalipora Putlibagh, on October 18, 2023.

Mr. Malik accused a person named Ayush Koul, who also goes by the alias “Vicky” and resides at Rose Lane No. 6, Rajbagh, Srinagar, of impersonating an IAS officer and swindling him out of INR 6.5 lakh. This deceitful act was perpetrated under the pretense of securing government employment for Mr. Malik’s son. In response to this complaint, the Budgam Police Station initiated legal action by registering an FIR No. 302/2023 under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
As the investigation unfolded, the primary suspect, Ayush Koul, was apprehended. It was further discovered that Koul had an accomplice, identified as Burhan Bashir, a resident of Nundresh Colony in Bemina. Both Ayush Koul and Burhan Bashir were subsequently taken into custody.
The local police have issued a warning to the public, advising them to exercise caution and vigilance when approached by individuals making promises of this nature. They emphasize the importance of verifying the credentials of those offering such services in order to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes. Additionally, the authorities have requested anyone possessing relevant information related to this case to step forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
