Awami Itehad Party (AIP) patron Engineer Sheikh Abdur Rashid has vowed to fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s narrative of “Naya Kashmir” and to advocate for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue until his last breath.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after being released from Tihar jail, where he was imprisoned for over five years, Rashid was resolute in his opposition to the government’s stance on Kashmir.
Rashid, as per Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the “Naya Kashmir” narrative has failed, citing support from his constituency as evidence. “The vote for me on June 4 was a referendum against Modi’s failed narrative,” he declared.
He emphasized that his fight is not just about political rivalry but about the welfare of the people of Kashmir.
Commenting on National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah, Rashid accused him of being focused on power, while his own fight is for the rights and future of Kashmiris.
“There is a huge difference between spending five years in London and being in Tihar jail, where prisoners suffer due to lack of medical care,” Rashid remarked, referring to his rival.
Rashid also expressed his grief over the death of Kashmiri prisoner Altaf Ahmed Fantosh in Tihar due to a lack of medical attention. He voiced concerns about the health and safety of other Kashmiri prisoners in similar situations.
The North Kashmir MP pledged to continue his fight for the unity of Kashmir’s people, stating, “If fighting for my people is a crime, I will proudly commit it again.”
