A tragic incident in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district claimed the life of a 42-year-old woman, identified as Rafeeqa Begum, on Thursday morning.
The mother of four was electrocuted while repairing an electrical appliance at her home in Odina Bandipora during an earthquake that struck the region.
According to officials, the earthquake occurred early in the morning, catching many residents off guard. Rafeeqa was reportedly handling the appliance when the tremors began, resulting in a fatal electric shock. Despite immediate efforts to save her, she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Rafeeqa Begum, the wife of Mohd Maqbool Dar and a resident of Aliabad Odina Sumbal, was well-known in her community.
Her sudden and tragic death has left the local residents in shock, as they mourn the loss of a mother and neighbor.
The local authorities have taken up the investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to Rafeeqa’s death. Initial reports suggest that the earthquake may have triggered a short circuit, causing the electrocution.
In a related incident in Baramulla, another man sustained injuries after jumping out of a window during the same earthquake.
Fearing for his safety, he took the drastic step to escape the tremors but was injured in the process. Fortunately, his condition is reported to be stable.
The earthquake has left a mark on the region, with residents grappling with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
As investigations continue, the community in Bandipora remains united in grief over the tragic loss of Rafeeqa Begum.
