India Ties with Sri Lanka in 1st ODI Despite Scoring 231, Loses All Wickets

In the 1st ODI at Colombo on August 2, India tied with Sri Lanka after matching their score of 231 but losing all their wickets. Despite no Super Over being played, the match remained highly competitive.

For India, captain Rohit Sharma led with a solid 58 off 47 balls, supported by Axar Patel with 33 runs and KL Rahul with 31. However, other Indian batsmen struggled against Sri Lanka’s bowlers.

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka were the top bowlers, each taking three wickets. Dunith Wellalage grabbed two wickets, while Asitha Fernando and Akila Dananjaya took one each.

The second ODI is scheduled for Sunday at the same stadium in Colombo.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first and posted a total of 231 runs for India to chase. Key contributions came from Dunith Wellalage, who scored an unbeaten 67 off 65 balls, and Prathum Nissanka, who made 56 off 75 balls. The rest of the Sri Lankan batting lineup failed to make significant scores.

On the bowling front for India, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each took two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar each claimed one wicket.

Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka decided to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, believing it was a good surface for batting. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was content with batting second.

Previously, India had dominated the T20I series, winning all three matches, but the hosts will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming ODIs.
