Tarique Raheem assumes presidency of Handwara Media Association
Handwara 25 June, 2024 : In a notable development in Handwara, Tarique Raheem, a senior journalist and Kupwara Correspondent for Greater Kashmir, has assumed the presidency of the Handwara Media Association (HMA). Known for his insightful reporting, Raheem formally took over from Kabeer Geelani as the six-month term of the latter concluded recently.
Democratic Decision and Shared Leadership
The transition of leadership was particularly unique as both Tarique Raheem and Kabeer Geelani garnered an equal number of votes. In response, members of the association unanimously agreed to implement a rotational leadership model. Under this arrangement, Raheem and Geelani will alternate as presidents every six months, showcasing a commitment to democratic principles within the organization.
Continued Structure and Responsibilities
Alongside the change in presidency, the Handwara Media Association has maintained its core leadership structure. Syed Imtiyaz continues as Vice President, while Aadil Akbar retains the role of General Secretary. Sajad Ahmad Lone remains the association’s spokesperson, and the position of Treasurer is jointly held by Aadil Akbar, Shamim Bhat, and Aijaz Manzar.
This development not only underscores the democratic ethos of the association but also highlights the resilience and adaptability of its leadership in serving the media community of Handwara effectively.
