A top police officer from the Jammu division undertook a comprehensive review of security arrangements at the revered Vaishno Devi shrine nestled in the Trikuta hills of the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. This review, conducted by Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, comes at a critical juncture, as President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit the sacred shrine.
President Droupadi Murmu’s Scheduled Pilgrimage
President Murmu’s visit to the Vaishno Devi shrine marks the culmination of her two-day tour, which commenced with her arrival in Srinagar on a Wednesday morning. Her itinerary includes inaugurating a remodeled Parvati Bhavan and an essential skywalk on the following day.
Skywalk: A Solution to Pilgrim Flow Challenges
The construction of the skywalk, initiated in August last year, is a much-anticipated development. This innovative facility, situated 20 feet above the track level, is poised to alleviate the challenges associated with the multidirectional flow of pilgrims, particularly near the Bhawan area. The chaotic conditions, which led to a tragic stampede on New Year’s Day in 2022, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and injury to 16 others, are set to be effectively mitigated.
Preparations for a VVIP Visit and Navratra Celebrations
To ensure the safety and security of the President’s visit and the upcoming Navratra festival, IGP Anand Jain conducted crucial meetings and visited police stations at Bhawan and Katra. His emphasis on remaining extra vigilant underscores the significance of this event.
Jain urged all officers and jawans to prioritize security measures, taking into account both the VVIP visit and the forthcoming Navratra festival. While engaging with the ground personnel, Jain personally inspected the base camp in Katra town, as well as the helipads, the event venue, and other critical checkpoints, commencing from Moori. In response to potential threats, he directed the reinforcement of security at vital points through the addition of manpower.
Jain’s comprehensive visit also included interactions with officials and staff at both the police stations in Bhawan and Katra. His unwavering commitment to ensuring the overall safety and security of the region underscores the significance of the security measures undertaken for this special pilgrimage.
