Rajasthan Assembly Election Dates Revised Due to Wedding Rush
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made a significant decision to revise the polling dates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly Elections. Originally scheduled for November 23, the voting date has been shifted to November 25 due to concerns about a “wedding rush.”
The ECI received multiple representations from various political parties, social organizations, and media platforms, highlighting the challenges posed by the original polling date. Jodhpur BJP MP PP Chaudhary was among those advocating for the change. The central issue revolved around the substantial number of weddings and social engagements planned for November 23.
The Election Commission, after careful consideration of these factors and representations, opted to change the polling date. The concern was that the wedding rush could potentially inconvenience a significant portion of the population, leading to logistical challenges and a decline in voter participation.
As per Mr. Chaudhary, more than 50,000 weddings were scheduled for November 23. The votes cast will be tabulated as initially planned on December 3, in conjunction with the other states that are set to hold elections next month. This adjustment aims to ensure that voters can fully participate in the democratic process without the added pressure of wedding events on the same day.
