Polling starts in Baramulla LS constituency
Polling began on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency where 22 candidates including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah are in the fray. Voting started at 7 am.
In some areas of the constituency, people were seen queuing up outside polling stations to exercise their right to vote, officials said. He said the constituency is spread over 18 assembly constituencies in three districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora, and includes two Budgam constituencies which were included on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission two years ago.
Voting is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. With over 500 centenarians among the 17.37 lakh voters eligible to cast their ballots, political observers are expecting a high turnout on the back of huge crowds at election rallies and road shows.
The first major political battle after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 will decide the fate of Abdullah and 21 other candidates.
