WB Governor Assures Trinamool Congress Delegation of Addressing MGNREGA Dues Issue
In a significant development, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has assured a Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation, led by party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, that he will raise the issue of pending Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) dues with the central government. This assurance came during a meeting held at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
Governor’s Commitment to State Welfare
During the meeting, Governor Bose listened attentively to the concerns raised by the TMC delegation regarding the long-pending issue of MGNREGA wages in West Bengal. He acknowledged the importance of the matter and pledged to bring it to the attention of the Government of India. Additionally, Governor Bose expressed his commitment to taking necessary steps for the welfare of the people of the state.
TMC’s Memorandum and Ongoing Protest
The TMC delegation submitted a two-page memorandum to the Governor, urging him to facilitate the resolution of the ongoing issue related to the non-payment of wages to more than 21 lakh deprived individuals in West Bengal who have earned their livelihood through MGNREGA. The memorandum emphasized the expectation that the Governor, as the state’s representative, would safeguard the interests of both West Bengal and its residents.
This development follows the fifth consecutive day of a sit-in protest outside the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata by TMC leaders, led by Abhishek Banerjee. The protest is aimed at demanding the clearance of pending MGNREGA dues owed to West Bengal.
The assurance provided by the Governor represents a step toward addressing the concerns of the TMC and the people of West Bengal regarding their rightful entitlements under the MGNREGA scheme.
