Fayaz Ahmad Bhat faced serious charges after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from an individual in exchange for a promised government job.
Misuse of Power: False Promises and Illicit Transactions
The assistant, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, was accused of misleading Dilawar Manzoor from Berthipora, Shopian, by falsely promising to secure a government job in exchange for a hefty sum of money. Bhat’s alleged actions included unlawfully accepting Rs. 5 lakh from Manzoor, part of which was deposited into his bank account, with the remainder paid in cash. This misuse of power not only violated ethical standards but also undermined the integrity of the institution.
Consequences: Termination and Reputation Damage
Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the charges against Bhat were substantiated, leading to his dismissal from service with immediate effect. The Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971, were invoked to address this breach of trust and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability.
