Tragic Suicide of NEET Aspirant in Rajasthans Sikar District Raises Concerns
An 18-year-old student, Nitin Faujdar, who was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), tragically died by suicide at a private hostel in Sikar district, Rajasthan. The incident occurred on Saturday, raising concerns about the mental health and stress levels of students preparing for competitive exams.
Details of the Incident
Nitin Faujdar, hailing from Nadbai town in Bharatpur district, had come to Sikar in June with the aspiration of cracking the NEET exam. He joined a coaching center in Sikar to pursue his dream. On the day of the incident, he had skipped his class at the coaching center.
Faujdar’s roommate, growing concerned about his absence, discovered that their room was locked from the inside. Upon opening a window, he tragically found Faujdar’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Alarming Pattern of Student Suicides
This heart-wrenching incident is the second student suicide in Sikar within a span of three days. Just recently, on September 5, a 16-year-old NEET aspirant named Kaushal Meena had also taken his own life in his hostel room.
The state of Rajasthan, especially in the coaching hub of Kota, has been witnessing an alarming pattern of student suicides. In Kota alone, 23 students have reportedly died by suicide this year, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s figure of 15.
Stress and Mental Health Concerns
The pressure and stress associated with preparing for competitive exams like NEET and the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for engineering have raised serious concerns about the mental health and well-being of students. With over two lakh students flocking to Kota annually to pursue their dreams of academic success, there is an urgent need for measures to address the psychological challenges these young minds face.
