Wildlife Department Issues Advisory on Man-Animal Conflicts in Kashmir

In response to the rising incidents of man-animal conflicts, the wildlife department in Kashmir has released an advisory urging caution to prevent loss of life.

The advisory highlights preventive measures, including avoiding solitary forest visits, especially during peak animal activity times, and refraining from approaching or chasing wild animals.

Livestock safety measures are also emphasized, such as attending to them in groups and using sound-producing devices. Additionally, the advisory recommends proper waste disposal and the construction of leopard-proof cattle sheds.

Residents near forests are advised to limit outdoor activities to daylight hours, clear vegetation around homes for better visibility, and consider having a pet dog as an alert system.

Furthermore, the advisory warns against making loud noises upon encountering a leopard and provides contact details for control rooms handling such conflicts.

The surge in conflicts, notably the recent incidents in Budgam, underscores the importance of proactive measures to mitigate risks to both humans and wildlife.
