Congress Working Committee Meeting in Delhi
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday morning, drawing the party’s top leadership including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and General Secretary Jairam Ramesh. Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot, a CWC member, was also present alongside other prominent party figures. The meeting aimed to address critical issues ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Finalizing Candidates and Recognizing Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra
Under the stewardship of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, the Central Election Committee (CEC) is expected to conclude discussions on the selection of remaining candidates for the seven-phase polls set to commence on April 19. Additionally, the CWC intends to commend Rahul Gandhi for his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a nationwide journey symbolizing the party’s commitment to social justice and inclusivity.
Endorsement of Manifesto Draft
A crucial agenda item for the CWC meeting is the endorsement of the draft manifesto prepared by the manifesto committee for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. Led by senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, the committee has crafted a “people’s manifesto” through extensive public consultations and online feedback mechanisms.
Key Guarantees Outlined by the Congress
The Congress has outlined five key guarantees as part of its electoral manifesto:
- Hissedari Nyay: Advocating for a caste census and the removal of the 50 percent reservation ceiling for SC/ST communities.
- Yuva Nyay: Promising 30 lakh central government jobs aligned with a comprehensive job calendar, along with assured apprenticeships for educated youth.
- Kisaan Nyay: Ensuring minimum support price (MSP) for crops and legislating MSP based on recommendations from the Swaminathan Committee.
- Naari Nyay: Offering financial support of one lakh rupees annually to women from economically disadvantaged families.
- Shramik Nyay: Guaranteeing a minimum wage of Rs 400 per day for MNREGA workers, prioritizing labor welfare.
