The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu Celebrates Academic Achievements
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu commemorated the 22nd Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day with fervor, as approximately 200 students participated in the festivities. Naveen Srivastava, India’s Ambassador to Nepal, bestowed the Ambassador’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship Roll of Honour upon the inaugural cohort of nine outstanding Golden Jubilee Scholarship recipients. In his address, Srivastava lauded the awardees of the 22nd batch of the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme and the exceptional students recognized in the first edition of the Ambassador’s Roll of Honour, urging them to excel in their respective domains.
Jaishankar Asserts India’s Global Presence
Highlighting the ‘special ties’ between India and Nepal, Ambassador Srivastava reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.’ He emphasized the burgeoning opportunities for youth engagement and collaboration within India’s startup ecosystem and incubation centers, urging students to explore potential sectors for collaboration. Furthermore, he underscored the deepening educational collaboration between New Delhi and Kathmandu, emphasizing its role in empowering youth.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Vice Chancellors and senior officials from prominent universities such as BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Lumbini Buddhist University, Kathmandu University, Agricultural and Forestry University, Purbanchal University, and Rajarshi Janak University. Additionally, representatives from eminent schools and government officials from Nepal attended the program, highlighting the collaborative spirit of educational endeavors between the two nations.
The Golden Jubilee Scholarship, established in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of India-Nepal economic cooperation, has seen a fourfold increase in scholarship awardees over the years, now reaching 200 beneficiaries. Under this scheme, students pursuing various disciplines receive financial support, with the current batch representing 76 districts of Nepal, including a notable representation of female and specially-abled students.
Since its inception, the scholarship scheme has benefitted over 3,300 Nepali students across all 77 districts. Moreover, the Indian government’s commitment to educational empowerment is evident through its provision of approximately 1,600 scholarships in various fields, fostering academic collaboration and capacity building between India and Nepal.
India and Nepal’s enduring partnership in education and capacity building is integral to both nations’ socio-economic development. As reiterated by the Ministry of External Affairs, these scholarships and capacity building programs reflect India’s commitment to enhancing Nepal’s human resource development for the collective benefit of the region.
